Barriers and Facilitators to Mental Health Service Use for Refugees in Sweden

Diana Rayes will discuss her completed dissertation research regarding refugee mental health service access using a mixed-methods approach. Her presentation will review her analysis of longitudinal, national registry data on mental health service use among refugees compared to Swedes and migrants, as well as interviews with Syrian refugees living in Sweden with experience accessing the mental health system.

Diana Rayes, Ph.D., MHS, is a postdoctoral associate within the Science, Technology, and International Affairs program at Georgetown University. Her research interests are in global mental health, with a particular emphasis on refugee and migrant mental health and the integration challenges these populations face in high-income countries. Her work has been published in leading journals such as The Lancet, Journal of Migration and Health, and Conflict and Health, as well as by think tanks like the Newlines Institute and the Migration Policy Institute. Diana earned her MHS and Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
