Global Health Student Fellows

The Global Health Student Fellows program is a year-long opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to collaborate with faculty on research projects, participate in global health-related events, and network with peers and scholars in the global health field.

Since its launch in 2017, the Global Health Student Fellows program has welcomed nearly 200 students from over 30 nationalities. Representing all schools at Georgetown, the fellows reflect the program’s broad interdisciplinary scope and global reach.

Research Project

Fellows collaborate with their mentor to develop a cutting-edge global health project related to research, policy, or direct impact. They also receive ongoing mentorship to develop their skills and connect with other research groups.

Speaker Series and Discussions

Fellows engage with global health leaders to explore the global health field and reflect on the shared values underpinning their work.

Research Showcase

At the end of the academic year, fellows present their research to peers and faculty to showcase the outcomes of their work. Top presentations receive commendations and awards.

1. Submit the general application form. The form has four sections:

  • Supporting materials. Please combine your Statement of Interest, CV/resume, Academic Writing Sample, and Unofficial Transcript into a single file.

2. In addition to this application form, submit your application materials in GMS under the appropriate job listing below. You do not need to complete any additional screening questions or provide information beyond what you submitted with your original application.

The Global Health Student Fellows program is a competitive opportunity open to all full-time Georgetown undergraduate and graduate students. Previous fellows and students graduating before May of the following year are not eligible to apply.

The Maeve Kennedy McKean Global Health Award is open to Georgetown undergraduate juniors who are in good academic standing.

As a fellow, you will be part of an interdisciplinary community united by a shared interest in global health. Fellows work five to ten hours per week on a faculty-mentored research project, participate in monthly discussions with faculty and peers, present their work at the end of the year, and engage in networking opportunities and global health-related events throughout the program.

As a Maeve Kennedy McKean Global Health Award recipient, you will also receive funding to conduct field research during the summer before your senior year and present your work at the annual Global Social Justice Research Symposium.

Undergraduate fellows will receive $18.40/hour, and graduate fellows will receive $24.04/hour.

In addition to an hourly compensation, the Maeve Kennedy McKean Global Health Award recipient will receive two stipends. The first distribution will be $5,000 to support travel and field research over the summer. The second distribution will be $1,500 to support publication and other costs after the conclusion of the project and final report.

The application period for the 2026-2027 program will open on Friday, August 14, 2026, and close on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 11:59pm (ET). Applicants will be notified of decisions in late September.

Selected fellows are expected to participate in the program from October 2026 through May 2027.

Yes. Students submit a single application for the Global Health Student Fellows program, and eligible undergraduate juniors may opt to be considered for the Maeve Kennedy McKean Global Health Award by completing a supplemental section of the application.

Approximately 15 students are selected as Global Health Student Fellows. In addition, one undergraduate fellow is selected to receive the Maeve Kennedy McKean Global Health Award.
