Wu Zeng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Global Health, School of Health at Georgetown University. He has more than 15 years of experience in conducting research on global health, disease burden, healthcare systems, health financing, and cost-effectiveness analysis of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical interventions in low- and middle-income countries.
His primary research is concerned with health financing policies and programs to effectively finance health interventions to address the immediate health needs of the population. In this area, his research focuses on quantifying the economic burden of diseases or conditions and designing and evaluating health financing policies/strategies for the utilization of health care and health outcomes using advanced econometric or statistical modeling approaches. He developed health financing strategies for the Ministry of Health in several countries and conducted numerous cost-effectiveness analyses of health financing interventions and health interventions.
His another research interest focuses on examining fund flow in healthcare systems to identify efficiency gaps to promote the efficiency of programs. In this field, he has led the implementation of national health accounts (NHA) and disease sub-accounts in several counties, estimated the cost of health interventions (e.g. health benefits package and Ebola responses), and examined the cost-efficiency of health programs (e.g. HIV/AIDS programs). His research in this field provides crucial information to enhance the efficiency of health programs.
He has conducted research in more than 20 countries and has been a senior consultant for many international organizations, including the World Bank, WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR, and UNFPA. His research received funding from the World Bank, USAID, UNAIDS, the Gates Foundation, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
