Study Abroad Programs

• The Office of Global Education can work with you to identify opportunities to pursue global health while studying abroad.

Service-Learning

• Georgetown’s Center for Social Justice Research, Teaching & Service  (CSJ) is home to several staff-run programs and student organizations committed to advancing social justice in diverse fields including in global health. We particularly recommend exploring CSJ’s Alternative Breaks Program .
• GU Students for Health and Medical Equity can help you better understand health care delivery by providing the opportunity to serve D.C. communities that lack adequate access to healthcare, experience that can translate to a future career overseas.

Research Fellowships

• The Global Health Student Fellows program is an opportunity for talented undergraduate and graduate students to work with faculty on research projects, to participate in global health-related events, and to network with one another and scholars in the global health field.
• The Maeve Kennedy McKean Global Health Award provides an undergraduate student with the opportunity to spend their junior year on campus working to advance a faculty member’s research and then be awarded $6,500 to conduct their own research anywhere in the world the summer before their senior year. 

Student Organizations

• The Global Health Governance as Public Service program  aims to train undergraduate students on global health and diplomacy.
• The Global Health Security Next Generation Network (GHS NextGen)  equips graduate students through mentorship and networking opportunities in global health, as well as serving as a platform for events and discussion on the global health security agenda with the greater Georgetown community.
• ​The International Health Interest Group (IHIG)  of the School of Medicine provides opportunities—such as lectures, service opportunities, and internships abroad—for you to increase your understanding of international differences in health and health care at the policy, economic, cultural, public health, and direct health care delivery levels.
• The Georgetown University Journal of Health Sciences , an organization that publishes quality research work by undergraduates to promote the discourse of a wide range of health science topics, is an excellent avenue to pursue research and express your passion about issues in health sciences through written media.
• Students can also write about global health issues in outlets such as the Caravel , the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs , and the Georgetown Law Journal .
• GlobeMed at Georgetown  is part of a broader network of university students that partners with global grassroots organizations to improve the health of people living in poverty. Georgetown students partner with Primeros Pasos, a local clinic in Guatemala, and have weekly meetings to fundraise for the clinic and discuss global health issues.
• Georgetown Health Law Society  is a student group for Georgetown Law students interested in any aspect of health law. The organization holds networking and career events, workshops, panels, and other social events for you to be connected and learn more about the field of health law.

Preparing for Life After Graduation

• The Cawley Career Education Center  maintains a page on global health with critical information for career planning and offers an email newsletter  on health and science opportunities. Career advisors are another great resource, and we recommend making an appointment with one to discuss your options.
• If you are a graduate student, your graduate school career center can be a helpful resource.
• Georgetown uses Handshake to compile global health opportunities from across industries.
• Devex has great resources for internships and jobs.
