Consortium of Universities for Global Health: Call for New Committee Members
As an institutional member of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH), Georgetown University invites faculty, students, and staff to apply to join one of several CUGH committees and subcommittees that are currently seeking new members. Applications are due by June 30, 2024.
Open CUGH Committees and Subcommittees
Georgetown University faculty, students, and staff may apply to join one or more of the following CUGH committees or subcommittees:
- Research Committee: The Research Committee’s goal is to carve out avenues for expanding collaborative global health research and research training. It is dedicated to sharing, evaluating, and advancing strategies that promote global health research.
- Global Health Operations Committee: The Global Health Operations Committee (GHOC) identifies and develops guiding principles and strategies to enhance university administrations’ procedural and financial alignment with programmatic priorities in global health, education, research, and service activities.
- Advocacy & Communications Committee: This committee identifies advocacy issues and ways in which CUGH, the broader global health community, and its partners can impact global challenges that impact the health of people and our planet. The committee achieves this via disseminating information, training, mobilization, and through facilitating collaboration amongst its members and the larger global health community.
- Education Committee: The Education Committee oversees a range of its education-related subcommittees. Committee members will work with various related subcommittees and the Trainee Advisory Committee to strengthen global health education, capacity building, broader training goals, and advance CUGH’s strategic plan in the education space.
- Academic Partnership Program Initiative Subcommittee: The Academic Partnership Program Initiative (APPI) Subcommittee, which belongs to the Education Committee, matches institutional academic programs wishing assistance, support, and guidance on particular issues with those who can provide it. The program is designed to connect individuals representing institutions that are interested in creating, growing, or strengthening their global health programs with individuals who have substantial programmatic experience. It is expected that in the initial approach, both partners talk about what is needed in the relationship, how often they will need to meet, and come to an agreement to move forward.
- Subcommittee on Master's and Undergraduate Degrees in Global Health (SMUDGH): SMUDGH, which belongs to the Education Committee, analyzes curricular trends for undergraduate minors, bachelor’s degrees, and master’s and doctoral degrees; it also identifies emerging innovations in curriculum design, teaching, and experiential learning for global health at the undergraduate and master’s levels.
- Workforce Subcommittee: This subcommittee focuses on working with CUGH members and non-members to develop long-term collaborations that strengthen domestic training programs across disciplines and sectors, including academia and government at all levels. It also identifies problems, solutions, programs, tools that can assist institutions to strengthen their workforce and training programs.
Committee Member Responsibilities
Committee members must work/study at Georgetown University. Committee members are expected to actively participate in at least two of three committee meetings and contribute to assigned projects during their terms. Responsibilities include less than three hours of work per month. Unless otherwise specified, terms will be for two years.

Applicants may apply via the CUGH committee member application form. All applicants must indicate the committee or subcommittee for which they would like to apply and submit a 250-word biography (no CVs) and a 250-word statement of interest. Applications are due by June 30, 2024.
