Following the recent Zika and Ebola outbreaks, the World Bank Group (WBG) established the International Working Group on Financing Preparedness, which found that despite progress made since these outbreaks, most countries are still not adequately prepared to respond to a pandemic threat. Dr. Mukesh Chawla joined the final Global Health Security Seminar of 2017 to discuss these issues and present the important role the WBG plays in advancing global health security.

This event was part of the Global Health Security Seminar Series, co-sponsored by Georgetown’s Center for Global Health Science and Security and the Global Health Initiative. Over the course of the 2017-2018 academic year, speakers in the series addressed critical issues in global health in an effort to promote greater dialogue regarding pandemic preparedness across the university and the wider Washington, D.C. community.

Mukesh Chawla is a leader in the field of international development currently working on how to better prepare countries for disease outbreaks. He has spent over 20 years working with governments and international development partners around the world on a variety of health sector issues. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Boston University.
