Inaugural Interdisciplinary Global Health Case Challenge

Addressing Wildfires Through a Multidisciplinary Lens

Aerial shot of a wildfire.

The inaugural interdisciplinary case challenge brings together undergraduate and graduate students from across Georgetown University to tackle pressing global issues. This year’s focus is on dissecting the profound health and life impacts of wildfires on individuals, while identifying gaps in health care systems that hinder timely care.

In preparation for the event, participants will have the opportunity to review the case scenario and relevant resources. During the event, they will collaborate in breakout rooms to analyze the case, then reconvene to present innovative, long-term solutions that address the interconnected challenges faced by individuals and communities affected by wildfires.

Please note that registration will close on Monday, March 3, 2025 at 11:59 a.m. Participants who register before the deadline will receive access to the Canvas courses. Please contact Pamela Biernacki with any questions.

Her research methodologies are grounded in evidence-based systems modeling, with a focus on translating theory into actionable interventions. Current and past projects include culturally adaptive co-creation projects for the green transition, translation of global governance norms into locally relevant frameworks, implementing the human right to sanitation, and wildfire recovery.

The event is co-sponsored by the School of Nursing and the Global Health Institute as part of their joint collaboration, INnovations in Solving Problems through Interdisciplinary Research and Education (INSPIRE).
