Status of Road Safety in the Region of the Americas

Dr. Eugenia Rodrigues, Regional Advisor on Road Safety for Pan-American Health Organization presented the latest PAHO report Status of Road Safety in the Region of the Americas. The mortality rate from road traffic accidents in the Americas has remained stable despite increased knowledge, policy recommendations and information promotion. One of the main factors of this is urban transport infrastructure in cities of Latin America. 

Since 2005 Dr. Rodrigues has served as the Regional Advisor on Road Safety at Pan-American Health Organization. She coordinated the development of Regional Status Report on Road Safety in the Americas in 2009, 2013, 2015, and 2019. Dr. Rodrigues has worked in road traffic accident surveillance since 1997, prior to which she practiced as an infectious disease epidemiologist. Dr. Rodrigues earned her PhD and MPH in preventative medicine, as well as her MD, from São Paulo University, Brazil.

Launched in 2017, the Urban Health Collaborative aims to champion urban health research & development is cities around the world and the Washington, DC area.
