Surveillance of Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers in Guinea

Event Series: Global Public Health Seminars

Emilie Ryan-Castillo will discuss a study examining risk behaviors for exposure to zoonotic hemorrhagic fever viruses in communities in Guinea. Over two years, researchers surveyed nearly 1,000 people across two regions, collecting blood samples and information on daily activities. The study found higher rates of Ebola and Lassa virus exposure in the forested region of Guéckédou compared to the highlands region of Dalaba, while other viral exposures were low and not demonstrably different between the regions.
